This Indian dairy expert, called the "father of the White Revolution," was a smart thinker and a dogooder who changed India's dairy business. His life's work, starting in the 1940s, was about helping many small dairy farmers, a story told in the great documentary, "The Milkman of India" (2014). He wasn't just an engineer; he was a social builder, creating a group system that helped lots of families escape poverty. His clever idea was that working together was important. He led the creation of the Anand Pattern, a group model that let farmers control their milk's making and selling. This new way, used by the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited (KDCMPUL), better known as Amul, became a guide for similar projects in India and around the world. Amul's success wasn't just about more milk; it was about making people economically free and fair. His coworkers always praised his leadership and strong commitment. One said he had amazing determination, and his vision always went beyond small problems. He famously said, "Making money isn't the main goal of a group, but serving the people." This belief guided his work, leading to the White Revolution, a great success that improved the lives of many Indian farmers. His work was known around the world, earning him many awards, including the Padma Vibhushan in 1999. He died on September 9, 2012, leaving a great example that still motivates people.
