Ulloor Iyer - A Lifestory

Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer, a towering figure in Malayalam literature, was a renowned poet, scholar, and historian. Born in 1877 in Changanassery, Kerala, he received a traditional Sanskrit education, which deeply influenced his literary style and thematic choices. His academic prowess led him to a distinguished career in the government service, culminating in his role as the Chief Secretary of Travancore. However, his true passion lay in the world of letters. Ulloor was one of the prominent members of the "Modern Triumvirate" of Malayalam poetry, alongside Kumaran Asan and Vallathol Narayana Menon, who revolutionized Malayalam poetry in the early 20th century.

Ulloor's literary contributions are vast and varied. He is best known for his epic poem, "Umakeralam," a historical narrative recounting the events leading to the establishment of the Travancore kingdom.
