Teesta Setalvad - A Lifestory
Speaking Truth To Power, Relentlessly Advocating For Justice

A well known Indian journalist and activist is known for always standing up for what is right and working hard for justice. Her life, which often looks like the hard times and problems shown in movies like "Article 15", has been about always fighting for people's rights, especially for those in India who don't have much power. She became well known after the 2002 Gujarat riots, giving her time to getting justice for the people who were hurt. She started Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), leading legal fights and speaking up to make sure those who did wrong were held responsible. People who work with her often say she is very strong, and many see how well she can deal with hard legal things without giving up. As Amnesty International said in 2004, "Her work is very important to make sure people are held responsible for not respecting human rights." Her work has had its hard times. She has faced questions and legal fights that are like the problems seen in movies like "Jai Bhim", but she has stayed strong in trying to find the truth and get justice. Even with the problems, she is still a strong voice, reminding us that fighting for a fairer society, like the search shown in "Rang De Basanti", needs strong dedication and bravery. She is a symbol of strength, inspiring many others to speak up against unfairness and to support the rights of those who are weak.
