Shabana Azmi, born on September 18, 1950, in New Delhi, hails from a family deeply involved in arts and social activism, with her father, poet Kaifi Azmi, and mother, actress Shaukat Azmi, being prominent figures. Azmi trained at the Film and Television Institute of India and made her debut in 1974 with “Ankur.” She became a leading actress in India's parallel cinema, known for her roles in “Arth” (1982), “Masoom” (1983), and “Fire” (1996). Beyond her film career, Azmi is a passionate social activist, advocating for women's rights and rural development. Her marriage to poet Javed Akhtar in 1984 strengthened her intellectual and artistic presence.
