Raman Lamba - A Lifestory
Fearless Cricketer, Forever Remembered For His Passion And Dedication

Raman Lamba was an Indian cricketer known for his aggressive batting style and exceptional fielding skills. Born on February 2, 1960, in Uttar Pradesh, Lamba made his firstclass debut in 1980 and quickly established himself as a formidable presence in the domestic circuit. His consistent performances earned him a callup to the Indian national team, where he made his ODI debut in 1986 against Sri Lanka. Lamba was a righthanded opening batsman who favored attacking the bowlers from the outset. While he wasn't always consistent at the international level, his fearless approach and ability to score quick runs made him a valuable asset to the team.
Beyond his batting, Lamba was also recognized as an outstanding fielder, particularly in the shortleg position. His agility, reflexes, and courage in fielding close to the bat were widely admired. He represented India in 4 Tests and 32 ODIs, scoring a century in both formats. His Test century came against Sri Lanka in 1986, while his ODI century was against Australia in 1986.
Tragically, Raman Lamba's career and life were cut short on February 20, 1998, at the age of 38. While playing in a club match in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he was struck on the head while fielding at shortleg without wearing a helmet. The blow resulted in severe internal hemorrhaging, and despite medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries three days later. His untimely death sent shockwaves through the cricketing world and highlighted the importance of safety measures in the sport. Lamba is remembered as a talented cricketer who played the game with passion and flair.
