Mani Ratnam is a highly acclaimed Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer, predominantly known for his contributions to Tamil cinema, although he has also directed films in Hindi and Telugu. Born in Madras (now Chennai), his entry into the film industry wasn't immediate; he initially pursued a degree in management and worked as a consultant. However, his passion for cinema eventually led him to explore filmmaking. He debuted as a director with the Kannada film "Pallavi Anu Pallavi" in 1983.
