A person known for writing historical stories in Tamil was more than just a writer. They were also a news writer, a fighter for freedom, and someone with many talents who had a big impact on India's culture. Born in 1899 as T.S. Krishnamurthy, they used the name Kalki, which was a clever mix of the first sounds of their wife's name, Kalyani, and their own. Their work started in news writing, working for papers like Navasakthi and later becoming the head of Ananda Vikatan, a well liked Tamil magazine. Kalki's way of writing was known for its interesting stories, clear details, and a bit of fun, making history easy for many people to understand. They were good at mixing real events with made up people, creating stories that people liked. Besides news writing, they were very involved in the fight for India's freedom, even going to jail for it. This feeling of love for their country and wanting to make things better was also in their writings. Kalki is most famous for their historical books like "Ponniyin Selvan," a big story about the Chola family. This story has been made into two movies (Ponniyin Selvan: I came out in 2022 and Ponniyin Selvan: II came out in 2023) by Mani Ratnam, sharing their great story with new people. Other important books include "Parthiban Kanavu" and "Sivagamiyin Sabatham," all showing how good they were at mixing history and imagination. They died on 05 December 1954, but their work still encourages writers and readers.
