Hemant Karkare was a distinguished officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS), renowned for his bravery and integrity. Born in 1954, he dedicated his life to serving the nation and upholding the law. He held a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, showcasing his aptitude for analytical thinking and problemsolving, skills that proved invaluable throughout his career in law enforcement. Karkare served in various capacities within the Maharashtra Police, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to public safety.
He gained significant recognition for his leadership as the Chief of the AntiTerrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in investigating several highprofile terrorismrelated cases, earning him a reputation as a fearless and effective investigator. He was known for his meticulous approach, unwavering dedication, and commitment to uncovering the truth, even in the face of immense pressure and adversity.
Karkare's commitment to justice and his exceptional service to the nation were tragically cut short during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
