Heals Hearts, Transforms Lives: India'S Pioneering Cardiac Surgeon

He is not just a heart doctor; he is someone with a big idea who has changed how easy it is to get health care in India. Picture a real life medical show, where the doctor is not just saving lives, but also building places that make good health care available to everyone, no matter how much money they have. People often compare him to Dr. Christian Barnard, because of his new ideas in heart surgery. Born and raised in Karnataka, his trip started with a simple dream: to make health care cheap for everyone. After finishing his medical learning, he trained in heart surgery in the United Kingdom. In 1989, he went back to India and helped a lot in starting the Manipal Heart Foundation. His hard work got the country's attention when he took care of Mother Teresa after her heart attack in 1990. This event made him even more sure that he wanted to give caring help. He then started Narayana Hrudayalaya, now called Narayana Health, a group of hospitals that do many surgeries at much lower prices than hospitals in the West. His new ways of doing things and his focus on doing things well have won him many awards, making him a true leader in Indian health care. He thinks that “Health care is a basic right, not something special only for some people” and this idea guides him.
