Anita Dube - A Lifestory
Visionary Artist: Sculpting Narratives, Critiquing Culture, Provoking Thought

A key person in Indian modern art, known for strong art pieces. She came into view in the 1990s, a time like the art shown in movies like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". She quickly became a strong artist. Her art often deals with hard social and government issues, making people think about tough things. She studied Political Science at Delhi University and Art Criticism at the Royal College of Art, London. This helped her mix art with deep thinking. Taking part in the important art show, "KHOJ International Artists' Workshop" in 1992, was a big moment. It made her a key part of the new Indian modern art movement. People she works with often like how she uses things in new ways. As Gulammohammed Sheikh said, "Her art can turn normal things into strong signs of meaning." She uses things like metal and wire, and also things she finds. This makes art that looks good and has deep ideas. Her art shows, like the one at Nature Morte in 2019, still get good reviews and help new artists. She was also the Art Leader of the KochiMuziris Biennale in 2018.
